讲座内容介绍:The internet has changed many aspects of publishing scientific papers in the last two decades, but some challenges for authors, referees, and editors have stayed the same. I will review how faster access to information has changed the process of writing, reviewing, and critiquing papers. I will also focus on the details of the process at Science and try to give some insights into what can make a paper more suitable and successful. I will also discuss recommended practices for writing and reviewing papers in general, and some of the pitfalls to be avoided.
讲座人背景:Dr. Phil Szuromi received his bachelor's degree in chemistry from Harvey Mudd College in 1980 and his PhD in chemistry from Cal Tech in 1985. His research at Cal Tech with Henry Weinberg focused on catalytic reactions of hydrocarbon molecules. He then had a postdoctoral position with Ted Madey at NIST in Gaithersburg, MD, exploring Fischer-Tropsch reactions. He came to Science in 1986, where he is now a Senior Editor. He currently handles papers in chemistry, physics, and materials science, but over the years he has also covered atmospheric science, biochemistry, and structural biology. He also works in the Commentary section of the magazine, where he solicits and edits “Perspectives” pieces.
