报告摘要:

There are some issues in the development of clinical research in Japan, for example :

l         Relatively low output in view of global standard comparison with its basic research

l         Clinical trials lagging behind evolving clinical research and development outside Japan

l         Current standards for clinical trials require a myriad of experts from different specialties. This infrastructure has not been ideal in Japan

Improvement of infrastructure is a sine qua non for high-standard clinical research, which is essential to translate outstanding basic and clinical innovation into globally-acceptable evidence. Besides, emerging Asian countries with appropriate infrastructure to conduct multinational trials implies lesser incentives for industries to sponsor trials in Japan; hence so-called hollowed clinical research in Japan being a buzzword.  It is of utmost importance to urgently tackle these issues in order to fill in the existing gaps and lags so that no more opportunities are to be lost.
