The International Institute of Population Health, Peking University Health Science Center, was established in September 2020. It was founded by Peking University Health Science Center to support the national “Healthy China” strategy and to promote the development of the health industry. The Institute operates under the School of Continuing Medical Education of Peking University Health Science Center.

With health promotion, health management, and health education as its three core pillars, the Institute is committed to building an integrated innovation system for multidisciplinary, multi-level, and cross-sector research and application. Leveraging the lifelong learning platform of the School of Continuing Education, the Institute actively promotes alignment of concepts, technologies, and research outcomes in the field of population health with international advanced standards. Through this approach, it aims to advance an integrated model of education, research, and industry collaboration within the School.

The Institute focuses on interdisciplinary integration across clinical medicine, public health, education, nursing, and related fields. By establishing innovative collaborative mechanisms, it works closely with schools and affiliated hospitals of Peking University Health Science Center to promote deep integration of knowledge, technology, products, and talent across the population health industry chain. The Institute actively attracts resources from academia, industry, and society to build an open, collaborative, and innovative platform for academic research and practical application.

Key research areas include studies on health promotion and intelligent health methodologies; development of health management systems and chronic disease prevention and control frameworks; and enhancement of clinical physicians’ competencies and proactive health capabilities. The Institute promotes deep integration of medicine with artificial intelligence, management science, and related disciplines. Through open research projects and university–industry collaborative programs, it has established a distinctive interdisciplinary research system with characteristics of Peking University Health Science Center.

In health promotion, the Institute conducts in-depth research in areas such as pediatric health, chronic gastrointestinal diseases in adults, perinatal health, sarcopenia in older adults, and community-based proactive health. In health management, it focuses on self-management of chronic disease patients, health risk prediction models, and development of intelligent health management platforms.
