Peking University Health Science Center for Evidence-based Nursing

In April, 2012, Peking University School of Nursing founded the second Evidence-based Healthcare Excellence Center of Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) in mainland China. In order to fully integrate strength of research and practice, and nursing and related disciplines, Peking University Health Science Center for Evidence-based Nursing was established in November, 2017 after restructuring. Comprising PKU School of Nursing and Peking University First Hospital, Peking University People’s Hospital and Peking University Third Hospital, the Center is a multidisciplinary and multi-sectoral collaborative center. It aims to develop a platform for collaborative research, talents cultivation, international and domestic cooperation and exchange for researchers and practitioners in the field of evidence-based nursing, promote excellence of nursing discipline of PKU, and play a leading role in the field of evidence-based nursing.

Our research focuses on evidence synthesis, dissemination, translation and ethically application of non-pharmacological interventions, symptom management, care support programs, fundamental care and specialized nursing technologies, especially on geriatric care, chronic disease management and clinical nursing. Based on a multi-disciplinary research team and supported by informatics technology, we are making efforts to develop care standards and clinical practice guidelines collaborated with governments and professional associations; translate best evidence into screening sheets, targeted recommendations, electronic training materials; and then disseminate and apply best available evidence with an AI-supported care model both in hospitals, communities and institutional settings, thus to promote the progress of knowledge-to-action.

The research team consists of multidisciplinary experts from PKU School of Nursing and affiliated hospitals, with three general hospitals and two specialist hospitals as our clinical bases. The core members have been trained in research methodology and evidence synthesis methodology, and two of them received the JBI Trainer Certificates in 2012. The core members hold major positions in professional societies/associations, including seven chairpersons, eight vice chairpersons and two Fellows of American Academy of Nursing (FAAN). The academic committee of the Center is composed of domestic and foreign experts in the field of evidence-based health care, as well as experts who have significant influences in different disciplines in China. Therefore, it greatly facilitates the development of norms, standards and clinical practice guidelines at national and professional levels, as well as the effects of expert think tank. The research team has in-depth collaboration with evidence-based health care centers and research-oriented universities in the United States, Australia and the Asia-Pacific region, and can meet the international standards in the research methodology and curriculum design.  We have finished more than 10 guidelines and expert consensus and more than 20 evidence implementation programs.
