基于国内外系统生物学的发展趋势及其广阔的应用前景，北京大学医学部于2009年开始着手申请建立北京大学系统生物医学研究所，并于2010年1月得到北京大学的正式批准。2010年6月17日，北京大学系统生物医学研究所宣告成立。

研究所主要针对肿瘤、心脑血管疾病等重大疾病，用系统生物学的研究方法和手段将复杂疾病研究与临床实际密切结合，增进人们对肿瘤、心脑血管疾病等重大疾病的病理和机制的系统理解，寻找新途径预测个体对疾病以及药物的敏感性；探索对这些复杂疾病更为有效的诊断和治疗方法；为每个人提供维持健康和预防疾病的个性化方案。研究内容主要包括三方面：大规模的组学研究，仿真建模和生物医学验证。

系统所是北京市唯一一家致力于肿瘤系统生物医学研究的科研机构，在相关领域具备国际领先水平，牵头建设了“肿瘤系统生物学北京市重点实验室”，设置8个研究室，目前拥有高通量测序、蛋白质组/代谢组质谱分析、转基因小鼠、活细胞工作站等科研大平台，不仅可以满足系统所目前的科研需求，还可为北京大学及其他科研院所提供服务。系统所尹玉新团队最近荣获“中华医学科技奖”二等奖。

在肿瘤等重大疾病的系统生物学研究方向已经获得一系列丰硕成果，相关研究发表于Cell、Cell Metabolism、Nature Immunology等国际顶尖杂志。

Peking University Institute of Systems Biomedicine (PKUISB)

In June 2010, Peking University Health Science Center established the Institute of Systems Biomedicine (ISB). It is a new initiative to tackle cancer using advanced technologies and is imprinted with a new research perspective known as systems biology.

PKUISB mainly focuses on the major diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. PKUISB integrates the scientific resources and clinical data with systematic biological research methods to elucidate pathogenesis mechanism of major diseases, develop approaches for early diagnosis and find effective therapies. The research mainly includes three aspects: large-scale omics research, simulation modeling and biomedical verification.

PKUISB is the only research institute dedicated to the biomedical research of oncology in Beijing. It has established the "Beijing Key Laboratory of Tumor System Biology" and set up 8 research laboratories. Currently, the research platforms of PKUISB include High-throughput sequencing, proteomic/metabolomic mass spectrometry, transgenic mice, live cell workstations and others. PKUISB has obtained great achievements in related fields. The research paper were published in Cell, Cell Metabolism, Nature Immunology and other top international magazines.
