中心成立于2001年2月，旨在充分发挥北京大学学科门类齐全，具有跨学科、跨领域综合研究的优势。应用现代科学技术，特别是生物医学领域的最新成果研究祖国传统医药，促进我国中医药的现代化，为其走向世界做出贡献。

　　中心将作为组织机构和中医药研究的平台，凭借北京大学临床医学、化学、药理学、分子生物学、生物信息学、计算机等多学科的优势研究力量，以临床药效为基础，中医药理论为指导，从多学科、多途径、多角度研究其化学成分、药理作用及作用机制，最终阐明药效物质基础和临床作用机理，研制出质量可控、疗效确切、剂型先进、服用方便的现代中药，同时探索中药复方研究可行的方法学体系，通过努力使中医药现代研究中心成为辐射北京大学各相关学科乃至全国医药单位的现代中医药研究基地。

　　Modern Research Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine of Peking University was founded in February 2001. As a part of Peking University, it enjoys the advantages in multidisciplinary and trans-disciplinary research and aims to prompt the modernization of traditional Chinese medicines by employing modern technologies.

　　The staff members in Modern Research Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine of Peking University are professionals from a variety of fields such as clinical medicine, chemistry, pharmacology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and information technology. They joint their efforts in exploring the chemical constituents, pharmacological action, and mechanism of action of Chinese medicines to determine the active principles and mechanism of their curing effects, and to develop modern Chinese medicines with desired therapeutic efficacy, specified targets, convenient dosage form, and controllable quality. They work to make Modern Research Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine of Peking University a research base on Chinese medicine radiating to various disciplines in Peking University and nationwide.
