Key Laboratory of Molecular Cardiovascular Sciences, Ministry of Education

This laboratory is based on Peking University, its predecessor was founded in 1984, Key Laboratory of Cardiopulmonary Endocrine Regulation Peptide, Ministry of Health. In 1994 it was renamed Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Molecular Biology and Regulatory Peptide, Ministry of Health, which was China's first cardiovascular key laboratory, and was established in 2002 as Key Laboratory of Molecular Cardiovascular Sciences, Ministry of Education. The lab is one of the most influential and longest history laboratories in the cardiovascular field of cardiovascular active peptides, adrenaline receptors and metabolic nuclear receptors.

Among them, the innovative group of the fund committee for metabolic cardiovascular diseases composed of the main PI has been successively funded twice, which has become the main base of basic research on cardiovascular metabolic diseases in China. The laboratory was inspected and evaluated by the Ministry of Education in 2005, 2010 and 2016. The results of the previous two evaluations were "excellent".

Based on the national needs and the specific recommendations of the expert group, this laboratory consolidates scientific research directions, increases laboratory construction efforts, takes the overall application of basic cardiovascular disease research as a whole orientation, and closely integrates clinical problems, the study focuses on metabolic cardiovascular disease-based translational research, it addresses the characteristics of cardiovascular disease in the Chinese population, starts with metabolic disorders, and further explores the pathogenic factors, pathogenesis, protective mechanisms, and prevention and control targets of metabolic cardiovascular disease. Through the joint efforts of all and relying on the high-intensity support of the unit, the key laboratories are now entering the upper-middle level of the relevant international fields.

There are currently 52 lab members and 30 independent PIs. The professional direction covers all aspects of cardiovascular clinical, epidemiology, pathophysiology, biochemistry and molecular biological environment, pharmacology and bioinformatics. Including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), 4 distinguished professors of Yangtze River Scholars, 5 winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholors, 7 winners of the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholors, 3 winners of the “Millions Plan” youth top talents in the Central Organization Department, 2 winners of the youth of the Yangtze river Scholars, a first cardiovascular research by ministry of education innovation team (2004), a foundation innovation research group (2008),8 New Century Excellent Talents of Ministry of Education,4 Beijing Science and Technology Rising Stars within this high level research team.

With a laboratory area of approximately 3,534 M2, under the support of the national “985” project, 8 public platforms have been successively constructed in terms of structure, function, metabolism, omics, information, models, and clinical aspects, more than 10 equipment worth  more than 500,000 yuan, the total value of about 30 million yuan. The key laboratory public platform has always been based on " research service, open use" as the operating principle. Under the premise of meeting the research needs of the key room, all instruments and equipment are all open to the outside world.

Recent years, laboratory won 2 national prize for science and technology progress prize, 1 second prize of national natural science, 6 provincial first prize, 4 provincial second prize, 1 second prize of China science and technology award, 2 first prize in the Chinese medical science, 3 awards for research in pharmacokinetic biochemistry, 1 item of the 14th "China youth science" and other awards.

In recent years, the laboratory published 507 SCI papers, of which there were 50 IF>9, average IF is 4.485, involving Nat Med, Nat Genet, JACC, Circulation,Cell Research, Circ Res, Blood, Cell Metabolism, Hepatology, Diabetes and other international first-class journals.

The laboratory has received 215 scientific research projects, about 306.34 million. Including 17 key projects of NFSC, 1 major project leader of NFSC, 1 major research project of NFSC, 6 key research and development projects of NFSC, 7 major research and development projects of NFSC , 2 NSFC outstanding youth program, 6 excellent youth program of the NSFC, 3 youth top-notch talent project of "ten thousand people program" of the Central Organization Department, 1 of Beijing science and technology plan - major projects (11.69 million) and 1 American NIH1RO1 five-year randomized controlled crowd research projects with total funds of $1.73 million. Laboratory PIs have participated in the formulation of clinical guidelines and the national 11th to 13th five-year plans for many times.

In recent years, the laboratory has trained a number of young and middle-aged domestic cardiovascular talents. It is through their efforts that the laboratory has been able to emerge on the international stage. At present, the complete cardiovascular function analysis, metabolomics and biomedical informatics platforms have become the main bases for metabolic cardiovascular basic research in China.
