NHC Key Laboratory of Medical Immunology

The Key Laboratory of medical immunology of the National health Commission was established in October 1995 with the approval of the Ministry of Health, directly subordinate to the Peking University Healthy Science Center (formerly Beijing Medical University). On April 3, 2000, Peking University and the former Beijing Medical University merged to form a new Peking University. Peking University is a national key university directly under the management of Ministry of education and a national "211 Project" and "985 Project" construction university.

Previous laboratory directors include Professor Zhenzhou Long (1995-1997), Professor Dalong Ma (1997-2002), Professor Xiaoming Gao (2002-2010), Professor Yu Zhang (2010-2017) and Professor Xiaoyan Qiu (2017 present). Professor Weifeng Chen (1995-2009) and Professor Zhigang Tian (2009 present) served as the director of the academic committee. Now professor Xiaoyan Qiu works as director of the laboratory.

The main research directions and contents of the Key Laboratory of medical immunology include: (1) the development and differentiation of immune cells, focusing on the development, differentiation and molecular regulatory mechanism of immune cells in different immune organs, in the process of immune reconstruction and under the conditions of immune-related diseases; (2) the Research of immune functional genomics, studying new cytokines, immune membrane molecules and autophagy related points; (3) The research of non-B-Ig, immunoglobulin from non-B cell source, to explore the structure, function, physiological and pathological significance of non-B-Ig, to carry out non-B-Ig as a new target of translational medicine research; (4) Tumor immunity, identification of new tumor specific antigens and epitopes, research and development of new CAR-T cells and related immunotherapy methods and plans.

The Key Laboratory of medical immunology covers an area of about 2100m2and is equipped with basic instruments and equipment for immunology, cell biology and molecular biology research, including analytical flow cytometer, cell sorter, automatic DNA sequence analyzer, capillary electrophoresis, quantitative PCR, high-pressure liquid chromatography, enzyme-linked spot image analysis system, inverted fluorescence microscope and microscopic image analysis System, low-pressure chromatography system, UV spectrophotometer, fermentation tank, various centrifuges, SPF mouse feeding facilities, living cell workstation and in vivo imaging technology platform.

The development goal of the key laboratory is to create good scientific research conditions and academic environment, attract and gather excellent talents at home and abroad, carry out high-level basic and applied research in the frontier field of medical immunology, promote the formation and development of new and interdisciplinary subjects, train and train high-level scientific and technological talents, and build an international level medical immunology research center and high-level medical immunology research center Level talent training base.

There are 30 fixed staff in the Key Laboratory of medical immunology, including 9 professors, 9 associate professors, 1 researcher, 1 associate researcher and 10 technical assistants. The talent team includes 1 Yangtze River scholar and outstanding youth fund winner (Yu Zhang); 4 new century outstanding talents (Wenling Han, Qing Ge, yuedan Wang, Jun Zhang); 1 Winner of Excellent Youth Fund. One researcher and one associate researcher of the new system were introduced.

Significant achievements in recent years:

non-B-Ig were first reported by Professor Qiu Xiaoyan three decades ago that non-B cells can express Ig, following systematically studies focus on its genetic characteristics and physiological and pathological significance. It was found that the variable region of non-B-Ig showed little diversity, and its production did not depend on the rearrangement of RAG gene. Non-B-Ig had natural antibody activity, and played a defensive role in skin mucosal immunity; Non-B-Ig played an important role in physiological function of myocardium, liver cells and spermatogenic cells. Non-B-Ig plays a key role in promoting the occurrence, metastasis and transformation of tumor. More than 20 works has been published incancer research, leukemia, J Biol Chem and other international authoritative magazines, obtaining a number of patent authorizations, and a new field of non-B-Ig research was opened up in tumor immunology. Relevant research has been supported by NSFC key projects, major international cooperation projects, NSFC general programs and other national funds.
