Beijing Key Laboratory of Sports Medicine Joint Injury
The Sports Medicine Laboratory of Peking University Third Hospital of was established on the platform of the Peking University Health and Science Center and Peking University Third Hospital. In June 2013, it was officially recognized by the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission as the key laboratory for joint injury and sports medicine. The director of the Key Laboratory is Prof. Yingfang Ao, director of the Sports Medicine Institute of Peking University Third Hospital. The director of the Academic Committee is Professor Guixing Qiu, the academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the deputy director of the Academic Committee is Prof. Ru Huang, the academician of Chinese Academy of Science and Dean of Peking University.
The laboratory aims at the common injuries and refractory diseases in the sports medicine. Based on the pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment techniques, and rehabilitation prognosis, we carried out researches focusing on the basic and clinical applications of sports injuries and treatment, tissue engineering and clinical translational research, and minimally invasive treatment to solve key scientific issues in the development of sports medicin,. The main research directions and research contents of the laboratory include: 1. Diagnosis and treatment techniques for joint injuries and related basic research; 2. The pathogenesis, new therapeutic targets and research techniques of degenerative joint diseases; 3. Tissue engineering technology (cartilage, meniscus, ligament) and gene diagnosis and treatment techniques in the prevention and treatment of sports injuries; 4. The effects of exercise on human physiology and biochemistry and function; 5. Functional assessment and rehabilitation study of sports injury after surgery. After years of construction, the laboratory has formed a multidisciplinary and multi-angle comprehensive scientific research platform including molecular biology, cell biology, histopathology, biomechanics, molecular imaging, materials science and engineering, tissue engineering, etc. Also, we have accumulated a solid foundation in molecular mechanisms, epigenetics, biomechanics, 3D bioprinting tissue engineering, rehabilitation strategies, clinical trials and translation studies.
After 60 years of construction, the Institute of Sports Medicine has become an academic echelon with strong strength and high overall quality. At present, the Institute of Sports Medicine has 73 staff members, including 29 doctoral candidates, 12 with high professional titles, and 20 with associate professional titles, and including 4 doctoral supervisors and 5 master supervisors. The current laboratory has a dedicated area of ??more than 2,000 square meters and more than 3,000 yuan worth of special equipment. At present, there are more than 80 scientific research fund projects in the laboratory, and the research funding has reached more than 7,000 million; over the past five years, the laboratories have published more than 100 SCI papers in sports medicine-related fields. The highest impact factor is 19.79. We have won 28 national patents, edited 13 monographs and won 4 provincial and ministerial awards. We have established a national sports injury prevention and control system, formulate national guidelines for endoscopic diagnosis and treatment and training programs for sports medicine, trained 4,500 professional doctors, and promoted minimally invasive techniques to 445 hospitals in 32 provinces and regions, treated 2 million patients for sports.
Important scientific research achievements and contributions in recent years:Created a precise minimally invasive surgical treatment system for sports injuries and apply it. Systematically studied the pathology of secondary damage of the anterior cruciate ligament of the knee joint and the biomechanical mechanism of movement. Taken the lead in carrying out brain research on sports injuries to find that knee instability’s influence of the brain center. Carried out in-depth study of the mechanism of sports injury repair and reconstruction. Found that articular cartilage degeneration has "superoxide dazzle" phenomenon in the mitochondria for the first time in the world, Synthesized a new nanoparticle probe coupled with ADAMTS-4 specific peptide to create early diagnostic methods for cartilage injury. Elucidated the function and mechanism of several key non-coding RNAs in joint degeneration. Screened out stem cell affinity polypeptides E7, L7. Explained the mechanism of structural and functional optimization of biological materials in tissue repair and regeneration. Proposed an innovative theory of one-step surgery using autologous stem cells in situ to repair cartilage and other tissues. With the strong support of Peking University, Peking University Health and Science Center and Peking University Third Hospital, the laboratory will strive to carry out innovative researches in frontier science and technology fields to obtain innovative results with independent intellectual property rights, cultivate and condense innovative talents, build high-standard experimental technology and international academic exchange platform and make greater contribution to the national sports medicine.
