Pharmacology (tumor) third-level laboratory of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine
This laboratory was established on the basis of the Laboratory of Integrative Medicine Department, and passed the third-level laboratory accreditation of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine in July 2009. It has obtained funding support from National Natural Science Foundation of China, Beijing Municipal Natural Science Foundation, projects from Beijing Municipal Administration of traditional Chinese Medicine, and so on. This platform also has educated more than a dozen of Ph.D and Master candidates.
The research field of this lab mainly focuses on the anti-tumor effects and mechanism elucidation of traditional Chinese medicine on breast cancer and lung cancer.Research directions:
1. Mechanisms elucidation of Shu-gan-liang-xue therapeutic principle on estrogen metabolism regulation.
2. The mechanisms of overcoming drug resistanceby Chinese herb with clearing heat and removing toxicity effect.
3. Tumor microenvironment and the regulation effect of traditional Chinese medicine.
The researchers of this laboratory are with different educate background such as cell biology, immunology, pharmacy and oncology, so this lab has remarkable interdisciplinary characteristics. With the leading of Professor Li Pingping, the director of our lab, our team conducted research on the regulative effect of Chinese medicine in tumor microenvironment as well as their anti-tumor action evaluation and mechanisms elucidation. Our research projects mainly initiate from clinical issues. Our research team won a Second Class Award of Educational Ministry Science and Technology Improvement in 2012, with the research results titled of "The intervention effect and mechanisms of Chinese medicine on adverse drug reaction caused by breast cancer endocrine therapy". In addition, the Chinese medicine prescription which has been used in clinics to ameliorate endocrine therapy caused side effect has applied for anational invention patentand be authorized.
Shu-gan-liang-xue decoction, the experienced prescription of Professor Li Pingping in clinical settings, was demonstrated to ameliorate side effects such as hot flash, insomniacaused by endocrine therapy for breast cancer. The laboratory studies showed this decoction can inhibit the synthesis and metabolism of estrogen-related enzymes thus to reduce tumor growth. Moreover, this decoction does not interfere with the efficacy of endocrine drugs but shows a synergistic effect with it. Bufei dedoction was commonly used to tonifying Qi for lung cancer patients with lung-Qi deficiency symptoms in clinics, and our laboratory studies showed this decoction can regulate the tumor immune microenvironment to exert anti-tumor efficacy. Our studies mostly come from the clinical issues, and provide scientific evidence and support for traditional Chinese medicine to treat cancer through laboratory research. Therefore, our experimental studies have been important clinical significance.
